The Blue Mountains
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Mountains, a short drive from town gets you to Ski Bluewood, over 50 miles of groomed
trails for snomobiling, numerous hiking trails, and beautiful drives. Wildlife abounds in these mountains, and the highest point
of Columbia oreaches 5200 feet. The Touchet, Tucannon and Snake Rivers offer great fishing and camping opportunites, or a place
to spend an afternoon with a picnic.
Historic Downtown Dayton
Dayton was platted in 1871 and it offers three historic districts with 117 buildings on the historical register. The Columbia County Courthouse is the oldest in the State as is the Historic Dayton Depot. Both have been fully restored and are open for tours. There are walking tour maps available for self-guided tours, and an annual Home Tour event each October.
Unique Shopping
One of Dayton's greatest charms is the shopping With its art galleries, museums, antique shops and other unique retailers
along historic Main Street.
History
Dayton's Main Street was a horse race track for several Indian tribes. Lewis and Clark went through Dayton on their return
and their campsite is lovely 2.5 mile walk from town. The campsite has life-size metal cutouts of each of the Corps members
and all their animals.
Fine Dining
Dayton boasts the only 4-star restaurant in Eastern Washington, and several other restaurants offer fine dining as well.
With choices ranging from soup and sandwiches to French cuisine, you're sure to find enjoyable meals. Dayton also has two wineries
and a fromegerie open for tastings. There are 2 bakeries and several more coffee shops that allow you to sit and linger with a
friend over rich coffee and fresh pastries.
Entertainment
The Touchet Valley Golf Course sits along the Touchet River just off Dayton's Main Street. The restored Liberty Theater offers
movies each week, features foreign films each month, and live theater throughout the year. The Weinhard Hotel and local
restaurants have live music on the weekends.
Recreation
In addition to hiking, Dayton's long winding roads leading outside of town are great for bicycling. The Touchet River flows
right through town and offers swimming holes for the kids.
